Ophthalmologist

Kathy Cao MD MEd FRCSC

Dr. Kathy Cao is an English, Mandarin, and Cantonese-speaking general ophthalmologist with extensive surgical experience providing culturally-sensitive, patient and family-centred care in the Greater Toronto Area. Dr. Cao received her Bachelor’s degree with distinction in Biochemistry from Queen’s University in 2002. She then graduated with her medical degree from the University of Toronto in 2006, and completed her residency training in Ophthalmology at University of Toronto in 2011. She also completed her Master of Education at the University of Toronto in 2015. ​ During her residency training, Dr. Cao was the recipient of several honors, including the Kensington Eye Institute resident award for earning the top performance in cataract surgery, and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery Foundation Resident Excellence award. Dr. Cao also has a passion for medical education and teaches medical students, residents, family physicians, emergency physicians, ophthalmologists and other healthcare professions locally, nationally and internationally. She is the current Medical Education Section Editor for the Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology. Dr. Cao is devoted to community service with the goal of preventing blindness. She volunteers with Orbis and Yee Hong Centre for Geriatric Care, and provides public education on eye health through radio, TV, and social media.

Ophthalmologist

Peng Yan MD FRCSC

Dr. Yan completed his medical degree at the university of British Columbia and Ophthalmology residency at the University of Ottawa. Following residency training, Dr. Yan further pursued subspecialty fellowship training in surgical retina at the University of Toronto through Toronto Western, SickKids and Sunnybrook Hospitals. As a surgical retina specialist, Dr. Yan offers all surgical and medical retina services through Kensington Eye Clinic and Toronto Western Hospital. Dr. Yan provides full service medical and surgical retina care to patients through the Toronto Western Hospital, Kensington Eye Institute and Uptown Eye Specialist. Clinic interests include surgical management cataract surgery complications, eye trauma, retinal detachment, epi-retinal membrane, macular hole, and complications of diabetic retinopathy as well as the medical management of all types of macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein occlusions and macular edema of various causes.Dr. Yan is an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto’s Ophthalmology Department. As an active clinical educator, Dr. Yan is actively involved in the training of medical students, residents and clinical fellows. Dr. Yan is also actively involved in multiple research projects and clinical trials for the treatment of various retinal diseases.
